That kind of tangible public declaration of faith was something I was pleased and honored to do. I think I would have appreciated that more a few years later, but the significance was not lost on me. But as far as my relationship with God goes, I don't think there was really any change at all, except for being something I could do to nurture it.

For me, my mother was planning to get me baptised(I'm only 12)next month, but my father had already made plans to go on vacation and booked a hotel and everything already so the plan was nixed. As of now, I have no idea when I'm going to get baptised, since my church strangely does mass baptism and holds it only once(at most twice) a year.
