I don't know the actual figure, this is the only figure I have, and it's actually how many illegal immigrants come from afghanistan to Australia. Since immigrants (okay, that's too much of a mouthful, I'm calling them boatpeople...) since boatpeople also come from most middle Eastern States, and about half of Asia, I'd guess the number is much higher, but I have no figures. > > How is "boatpeople" better than "immigrants" when typing? Both have ten characters, and at least immigrants has a double letter in it, surrounded by a repeated letter. > But better than Illegal Immigrants. Double letters don't help when you're not a touch-typist. Plus, it's the common, non-derogatory word for those people. It's definitely non-derogatory. Almost all our illegal immigrants come by boat. They're horrid, leaky vessels that they paid a hell of a lot of money for, and it's depressing that anybody feels that level of desperation. I don't grudge them their right to run away, to seek refuge from thir own country, but I wonder how we can hold up our end of the bargain, and process them quicker, or something. Given that 3,600+ is a large number compared to our population (19 mill.).
> By the way, Canada has a very similar policy about refugees (the processing and such) but I don't think we have anything like detention camps. Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about how our system actually works, so I can't help you, really.
Hmmm.. I would love to know how they do it. Especially since we are taught that Canada and Australia have many similarities. > > > samhael > > Don Monkey
