It is actually a really good thing that we have immigration in Canada, otherwise our population would decline. I don't many of the details of our immigration policy; I don't believe that one could even appeal to the British monarch.

On a related note, I just watched a program in which there was an interview with a gentleman from Camaroon who came to Canada, learned about immigration law, and quickly set about selling AUTHENTIC passports to various members of Al-Queda, at $25 000 each (canadian, about 50 cents American). Really a nasty guy, he was, and seemed unconcerned that most of his passports would be used by people wanting to kill my neighbors to the south. It makes me wish that we had a tighter rein on refugees in Canada.

Mostly, though, we Canadians just smile and nod, and accept anyone who happens to want to live here. This is fine by me; anyone who causes any real trouble is sent somewhere remote and uncomfortable, like Nunavut, or Vancouver.
