I think I'm a fairly serious Rinky... in general... so here goes. :)
I showed up in RinkChat on February 21st, 2001 (yes, in two days is my RinkBirthday! w00t.), although I'd been an anonymous visitor to RinkWorks for a very very long time. I can't even remember when or why I originally found the site to begin with.
But as for how I came in RinkChat... in spring semester last year, I had a class schedule with massive breaks in the middle... breaks of the sort where they are too short to go home, yet too long to be easily filled. None of my friends had breaks corresponding with mine, so I decided to try and kill some time in the library's computer lab. I remembered RinkWorks as being a site with lots of content to keep me busy, so I went and checked it out.
Around that time, the nomination and voting for the RinkAwards was underway, and the chat archives were brought to my attention on the front page. I read through some of them and became absolutely hooked. Once I had finished every single one, I decided that these people seemed pretty cool... so I nervously ventured into chat.
Sam spotted someone who could spell and punctuate (GASP ;)) entering the main room, invited me within 30 seconds to a private room... where I was interviewed, hit on by Dave, and memobombed. The atmosphere was actually intelligent, funny, and (most importantly) genuine. By the end of that day, I was sure I'd be coming back. ;)
