That reminds me of how some people didn't realize that "The Screwtape Letters" was meant to play devil's-advocate. This might be even stranger than the Harry Potter controversy in that the author was Christian, the "advice" wasn't to people but to a demon, and the readers were just "listening in," the evil spirits recognize God and His powers, and are eventually foiled by Him.

Anyone else got stories of paranoid interpretations of media?
