In a Christian magazine my mom gets there was an article once about the Harry Potter furor. It took a delightfully moderate stance: it said that they (the people who wrote the article and put together the magazine and such) didn't think the books were the Manifestation Of Satanic Evil or some such, and that it's a well written series and it could encourage kids to read, but it also said that it could be a problem if your kids are young and you're trying to raise them Christian, as it may interest them in the occult, and because the characters often "do the wrong thing for the right reason", but if you feel your children are mature enough to not be massively influenced by these factors then go ahead and give the books to them. The article did not demand that schools and libraries ban the book or burn the book or whatever other people were advocating, and I found it to be a very good article that actually described how I feel about it as well.
