Did Your Pop Song Lose Its Flavor...?

I, the eternal music lover, have been thinking about something for awhile and thought I'd bring it up. I'm sure we've all heard a song that we loved so much, that we listened to it every day...the day just wouldn't be complete without it (or maybe I'm just weird, but anywho).

I was just wondering what it is about a song that makes it so great that it doesn't matter how many times you listen to it, you still love it. The first example I can think of is the Lifehouse song, "Hanging By a Moment." It's been all over the radio and MTV for months, yet I still blast it whenever I hear it. I dunno...it's just weird (at least to me) why some songs are like that (although different songs to different people, of course). I mean, HBAM isn't even an intricate song...the vocalist doesn't have the greatest voice in the world...yet something about it just leaves me riveted and I can't help loving it.

Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

Oh, and this is kinda beside the point, but I keep wondering how one goes about becoming an album reviewer for magazine publications. I am particularly drawn to Entertainment Weekly's reviews. They're really short, yet they get their point across oh-so-nicely. Sometimes, I write album reviews on my own (geek alert!) just for the fun of it. Mine always end up pages long, and I have no idea how to write a shorter, to-the-point review. Hmm...anyway...I wonder what steps a person should take in order to become an album reviewer like that? The pay's probably terrible, but it'd be fun.
