'fess up!

Okay, nobody commented on that little blurb about the value of education. But 'fess up now, how many of you checked your atlas to see if there really is a town called Hazard in Kentucky?
It was named for American naval hero Oliver Hazard Perry. It is located in Perry County. My mother used to say, "Why couldn't they have named it Oliver?" The name "Hazard" really seemed to fit in the '40's. I remember several shootings in the downtown area during the nine years I lived there.
On two occasions, I actually heard the shots. It was a bad place to spend the WWII years, but then Planet Earth was a bad place in those years.

The last time I visited Hazard it was a much nicer town. The smoke pollution from the trains was gone. The dirty grey of the war years has been replaced brightly painted houses and the roads in the area have been vastly improved. And the house where we lived is still there. It looks smaller now.
