> Do you remember that thing with Oprah a while ago where she spoke out against the beef industry because of the expert on her show showed how inhumane and filthy it was... cows being kept in cages (what do you think veal is but babies in cages??) and dirty and killed slowly. Sure they try one quick cut but it doesn't always work and the industry has a lot of money to keep the environmental protectionists out of the way. Remember they sued Oprah even though she won in the end but still. That's a lot of money to have!! Don't think they don't try and pay off politicians!!! >
As a member of the animal industry, you will probably think I am biased, but I will attempt to be as objective as possible. This show you are referring to dealt with mad cow disease- something that has never been reported in the US. It wasn't about the horrible treatment of catttle. The beef industry tried to sue her for defamation because her information was incorrect; however, people believe all the bull (excuse the pun) she spouts.
I *do* know how animals are raised in the meat industry. My lambs were sold 2 weeks ago and those were the happiest sheep you've ever seen. If they weren't sold for meat, what do you suggest we do with them? Just let them roam the highways and pasture land, eating whatever they want? That wouldn't happen. All that beautiful pasture land (I live in California) would instead become developed and there would be no place for the animals to live (see- Alaska wilderness/drilling for oil).
I realize my ideas kind of drift around, and I apologize for that. It just disturbs me that people use incorrect information in their discussions. If you are trying to convince us to become vegans, please get your sources correct.
