Just got back from seeing the Broadway version of The Lion King. 'twas very good. The costuming was amazing, the storyline translated well to the stage, and the visuals (such as the stampede or the face in the clouds) were well done.

There are sequences in The Lion King with dancers doing some stretches, some physical stretches, and some wire fu magic. This would have been absolutely stunning if we hadn't seen Cirque du Soliel the week before. At Cirque du Soliel, the aerialists did some fascinating movements: spinning, twirling, looping, oh-my-gosh-how-is-she-doing-thats. In The Lion King they just did some basic twirls and circles. "I could do that!" I wanted to scream. After seeing Cirque's contortionists, I didn't impressed with some of The Lion King's stretches and dance routines.

So for all of you planning on seeing The Lion King and Cirque du Soliel in the same week, see the Disney thing first.
