Bad Grammar

When I was in the fifth grade (which must have been over 50 years ago) I often missed the school bus and sometimes got caught in a drenching rain. My neighbor William also missed the bus, so we both ran the mile to school as fast as we could but were soaked by the time we got there. I asked the teacher "Can me and William go stand over by the radiator and dry off"? She frowned a little and then replied "Yes, you and *mean* William may go stand by the radiator." What I think sounds uneducated today is when someone says "We had dinner with he and and his wife last night." Is this somehow now correct or am I just nitpicking? I had really good English teachers in high school and they would have corrected me for such bad grammar! And my Dad used to tell me to go plug the *card* in the wall outlet. But I suppose I had to overlook that!
