> Not even remotely right. The test is what the pronoun would be without the "and [the other person]." Hence, "We had dinner with him and his wife," but also "He and his wife had dinner with us." Otherwise intelligent people I know do the same thing with "I" (as in "He took Maria and I to dinner" -- NO NO NO) and it drives me bonkers.

I think the pronunciation of *cord* comes from the
Appalachian Mountain dialect commonly found here.
