You are far more likely to be struck by lightning, bitten by a poisonous snake, or seriously injured in your own home. The trouble with phobias is that they are stupid and illogical, to use your words, and we still worry about them no matter how unlikely they are. I worry about falling off high places. My logic is that if you are going to have a phobia, it might as well be logical. I avoid high places like the plague, so I guess that reduces the odds. Oops! Now I'm back to stupid and illogical. > > Howard > > How high is high? You could get hurt falling off a footstool. Do you avoid footstools? Ladders? Rooftops? Mountains? You've been to Clingman's Dome and climbed to the top, so I guess you're not afraid of mountains. Is it flying then? In a plane, you're higher than the mountain. But you like to travel, and I know you fly a lot. So I guess the cut off must be higher still. > > I know what it is. You're afraid to go to outer space. Well, let me ease your stupid and illogical fear. You don't weigh anything in outer space, see? So you can't FALL! All this time, you've been afraid for nothing! > > Gri"Howard can be an astronaut now"shny
Phobias, in general, are foolish. Look the word up in your dictionary. I'm scared to death on a 12 ft. stepladder, but looking down at Pike's Peak from 39,000 feet doesn't bother me. That's foolish. Worrying about being shot on a freeway while you are surrounded by 40 ton trailer trucks is foolish. Those trucks can be a real threat if you, or one of them, wander out of your lane. I've seen smashed cars on the freeway, but I've never seen anybody get shot. Now, would anybody want to guess why my gutters are still clogged with leaves? Howard
