> Phobias, in general, are foolish. Look the word up in your dictionary. I'm scared to death on a 12 ft. stepladder, but looking down at Pike's Peak from 39,000 feet doesn't bother me. That's foolish. Worrying about being shot on a freeway while you are surrounded by 40 ton trailer trucks is foolish. Those trucks can be a real threat if you, or one of them, wander out of your lane. I've seen smashed cars on the freeway, but I've never seen anybody get shot. Now, would anybody want to guess why my gutters are still clogged with leaves? > Howard
I was just talking about this with my wife. A few days ago, we went skiing and I didn't have any trouble with the lift chair that had supports on the outside of the chair. However, when we went up another lift where the pole was in the center of the two-chair lift, I almost JUMPED OFF THE CHAIR.
I guess I felt safer when the poles were on the outside of the chair because that give me a sense of enclosure. The lift with the one pole in the center of the chair made me feel like I was completely vulnerable.
This fear of heights is rather illogical and I don't know where I got it from. I could die falling off a stepladder just as I could from falling off a chairlift or the top of a building. Yet I'm not afraid of flying.
