All the following was checked at 13.15 local time (GMT+1 = 07.15 in N.Y), Friday Nov. 10th.
I posted this messages at 15.25 local time.

First of all, let me state that this post is just to let you all know what Italian newspapers say about USA elections, as a follow-up to Dracimas curiosity.
I checked the websites the 3 most authoritative newspapers (1 apolitical, 1 left oriented, 1 right oriented) trying to get the best coverage, reporting all of the front-page contents related to the topic, also when they express strong political views; of course, read the following only as a report about how Italian mass-media see USA elections, then let me know your opinion (I provided also my private e-mail address).

1) "Corriere della Sera" - based in Milan, most authoritative
-no political orientation;
-circulation about 1.000.000, nationwide

Breaking news: "Bush staff confirms victory, +327 votes".
Headline: "Florida: Bush wins for 327 votes"
"It's not the final result, another week needed to count votes sent by mail".

2) "La Stampa" - based in Turin, targeting mid-class
-Centre-Left (moderate);
-Northeast Italy (no circulation data);

Headline: "White House, the Lawyers' Battle".
Front page article: "Two days after, the President election is stopped by a political-legal mess held by lawyers. It may last days if not weeks. Bush advantage was dramatically reduced to 229 votes. They're waiting for the votes sent by mail, about 2300 are still missing".

Their daily reader poll:
"The USA elections mess makes you think that:
a) USA electoral system must be changed (18%).
b) USA is a democracy that respects also minorities (26%)
c) USA are run by industrial-economical lobbies (33%)
d) USA are declining (24%)

3) "La Repubblica" - based in Rome, authoritative, targets mid-class
-Centre-Right (moderate);
-Circulation about 900.000, nationwide;

Breaking news: "Florida: Bush is first, +327 votes"
Headlines: "Bush is first by 327 votes";
"Florida: second count is over, but must wait for the votes sent by mail to celebrate the winner".
