Unfortunately, there has been about 700 attempts to get rid or change the electoral college system since we've had it (according to CNN.com). Maybe this time it'll actually happen.

So far, the biggest argument I've heard for keeping the bloody thing is that without the electoral system, candidates won't visit the smaller, less populated states. Instead, they'd probably sit in New York City or Washington, DC, and campaign via television.

I've got to ask. Is that such a bad thing?

By not traipsing all about this country, the nation would save money in the form of campaign funding. How many candidates actually visited all fifty states in the union? The last Presidential candidate I know who did such a thing is Nixon.

(It's also silly to think that a Presidential candidate wouldn't hit the road.)
