We are not living together to "test out" our marriage beforehand or any suchlike silly thing, but instead for purely utilitarian purposes. We cannot afford to live seperately unless she goes back to live with her parents, in which case we'd almost definitely not see each other for several years. Being *that* far apart was not an option for either of us, and so we're living together.

May I respectfully ask, if you're going to get married eventually anyway; and you say you can't afford to live separately (& apparently don't want each your own place with your own platonic roommates to share expenses with).....then why not just get married now? What are you waiting for? Not that it's any of my business, of course. Just hate to see anybody's fiancee describe their relationship/situation as utilitarian.

...yes but isn't that what Las Vegas is for? :-)
(The wedding chapels, not the gambling...hey there's a joke in there somewhere, I know...)

...and of course, there's the waning practice of eloping--quick, inexpensive, and definitely not utilitarian! BTW does anyone know anyone who has actually eloped?

Anyway, the wedding's not nearly as important as the marriage....

koala"still a romantic"mom
