(Because I made the mistake of mentioning it on RinkChat.)
A businessman, arriving at work one morning, is accosted by a beggar, who asks him for some money for a meal. The businessman is inclined to be generous this morning, and he gives the beggar ten dollars.
When lunchtime rolls around, the businessman heads out to his favourite posh eatery for lunch. When he arrives, who should he see but the beggar, tucking into a large bagel and lox.
[NB: I have no idea what bagel and lox is. The guy who told me the joke didn't explain very clearly. Deal.]
The businessman is appalled; he was expecting the beggar to get a cheap meal somewhere, and here he is, buying this relatively fancy meal at this fancy eatery. He goes over to the beggar and shouts at him a bit.
The beggar regards him calmly, and when's he pauses for breath, says, "This morning, I could not afford to eat bagel and lox. Now, apparently, I cannot eat bagel and lox. Tell me, please, when *can* I eat bagel and lox?"
