I don't know where you got your lox, but it's no wonder you hated it. Lox is more commonly the name for sliced raw or smoked salmon. A traditional "bagel & lox" meal is a bagel and a plate with lox, cream cheese, onions, tomatoes, and capers; you pick and choose what you put on yours.
