Over the last few years, I would have to say that Jerry Maguire and The Rock are the two most overrated movies, IMO. I have no idea how Jerry M. was nominated for best picture (I did think the football scenes were some of the most realistic ones in film) since I didn't care for the characters at all. And this was before I began to loathe Renee Z. as an actress. And the Rock was a tired old premise with an unnecessary car chase thrown in so you could see the scenery in San Francisco.

Most overrated movie? I'd have to say the Star Wars series. It has such a clichéd plot, extraneous characters who are more often than not extremely irritating, and some unexcusable bad acting, particularly from Mark Hamill and Jake Lloyd. They are not the cinematic masterpieces everyone makes them out to be. Yes, they had special effects that were Astounding for the time, and yeah, they changed the way many movies were made, but influential does not mean good. I'm sick of hearing about these festering cakes of insidious badness and how wonderful people think they are.
