I believe you are thinking of Top Cat, a Hanna-Barbera cartoon about cats living in a dump. Garfield was kind of cool at one time, probably because I was much younger. Heathcliff always reminded me of a cross between Marmaduke and Dennis the Menace. I would only see it in my grandparents paper, the Modesto Bee, but I don't know if it is still running.

Get Fuzzy is growing on me. Now, if we could only get rid of Overboard!!
