I just read an AP news story about the state of Tennessee's new "don't call" list for telemarketers. Basically anyone who wants to can have their phone number placed on this list, and telemarketers aren't allowed to call them. The date for the list going "live" has been pushed back because of the tremendous response it has received; so many people have applied to be on the list that they've had to postpone the publication of it.

Supposedly the telemarketing companies are in favor of such lists because they only want to call people who want to talk to them.
