Tennesseeans Say "NO" to Telemarketers! posted by Grishny on Monday, July 24, 2000, at 12:02:11:
> I just read an AP news story about the state of Tennessee's new "don't call" list for telemarketers. Basically anyone who wants to can have their phone number placed on this list, and telemarketers aren't allowed to call them. The date for the list going "live" has been pushed back because of the tremendous response it has received; so many people have applied to be on the list that they've had to postpone the publication of it. > > Supposedly the telemarketing companies are in favor of such lists because they only want to call people who want to talk to them. > > Gri"put me on the list! I'm sure I won't be missed!"shny
US West, for all its multifarious faults, has something similar to this here. You can ask to have your name marked in the phonebook with a little symbol meaning "commercial solicitation prohibited," meaning no telemarketers. Many people, though, choose to simply mess with telemarketer's minds instead.
