No it isn't. 'Wh' truly does have a different pronunciation than just 'w', and regardless of what might seem to make sense, the correct pronunciation is closer to 'hw' than any other transliterated representation. Dropping the 'h' is a technically incorrect pronunciation, as is pronouncing it after the 'w'.

It's no less logical than 'sh', pronounced by making both the 's' and 'h' sounds simultaneously rather than in succession, nor than 'ch', pronounced nothing like the letters suggest, nor than 'th', which has two pronunciations neither of which involve a 't' sound.
