A lot of spelling problems might be avoided if, when a new word from another language worms its way into the English langage, the spelling is altered to meet the supposed 'rules' they teach in elementary school.

What may help you is the entire rule: 'i' before 'e' except after 'c', or when sounded like 'a' as in 'neighbor' and 'weigh'.
