"The Matrix" was certainly a very inventive movie of its type, and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I hesitate to say what the "best" movie of the year is (partly because of the whole "objective best" thing that Sam started that I *really* don't want to start thinking about again, or my head will explode). Also, I haven't seen several of the well-reviewed movies to this point in the year, such as "Three Kings". And I can't wait to see "Magnolia", "The Talented Mr. Ripley", and "Man on the Moon", as well as "The Insider" and "Anna & the King" which have already opened (yes, I know the reviews for the latter aren't that good, but I'll watch Jodie Foster in anything).

Of the ones I've seen -- I really liked "The Green Mile", "Toy Story 2", "Being John Malkovich", "Election", "The Red Violin", "The Sixth Sense", and "Tarzan", off the top of my head (and in no particular order). Not sure which I would call the best -- maybe BJM if I was forced.

I was a little disappointed in "Dogma", as I mentioned here before. I saw "Fight Club" this past week and would give it a solid B. It's got solid performances and a decent plot with a great twist toward the end. But it does feel a bit long, and I think it's a little self-indulgent as well.
