While sterotypes are generally in bad taste, they are a source of humor. As a kid, I lived in Kentucky. But we moved to Florida, where some of the kids in my class were surprised that I wore shoes. There was no TV then, but L'il Abner was in the funny papers, and movies had no qualms about making hillbillies look like the sterotype. They were not nice to people of color, either, but to their credit, they have learned.
I don't have to rely on sterotypes myself. I have traveled in all 50 states and know firsthand what they are like. I always enjoy telling people what a beautiful place Mississippi is, and watching their reaction. Sure, all states have their drawbacks, but Tennessee or New Jersey, Mississippi or Illinois, California or South Carolina, they are all largely beautiful places with intelligent, friendly people.
I read the L'il Abner strip as soon as I was able to read and I still laugh at the Beverly Hillbillies, but I don't believe that stuff is real.
Where is your blog? Howard
> Heh.. yeah, i've been kinda bad about stereotypes lately. > > I've been running a blog full of those Do-it-yourself motivational posters for the last 4 months or so, and the 'Big Ticket Item' is that I've been picking on states lately. Truth be told, I took a screen shot of my reply to your post and inset it into a new poster the other day. > > > > > So people in Tennesse have trouble making left turns? Could this story have happened anywhere else? You have been watching old movies again, haven't you. > > > > It's OK. I know about sterotypes. > > Howard > > > > > > A man in Tennessee was making a left turn into his driveway. Unfortunately, he was hit rather hard by an oncoming car. His wife, who was cooking at the time, rushed outside leaving food cooking on the stove. The kitchen caught fire. Someone had called 911 and emergency respoders wound up fighting the fire as the man was airlifted by helicopter to the hospital. His house was seriously damaged by fire. The police gave him a ticket for failure to yield to the oncoming car. His car was destroyed, and his wife was upset. The other driver may sue him. I would not want to be there when the poor guy gets the bill for the helicopter ride. > > > > > > > > Some days you would be better of just staying in bed. > > > > Howard > > > > > > As bad as I feel for the man, the story basically told itself in the first four words. > > > > > > Daniel
