I'm no liberal crusader by any means, and when it comes to movies from past
generations I tend to accept any social leanings they might exhibit as
products of their time. But it's tough to root for Jungle Jim this time,
who agrees to help relocate a tribe of natives from their island home so
some Americans can conduct nuclear testing and bomb it to smithereens.
"Don't worry," they say (I'm paraphrasing here) "we'll rebuild their homes
afterward." Since they're a primitive people, it's presumably okay to
nuke their land without their permission, as long as nobody gets hurt, and
they get new grass huts after.
Enemy agents complicate matters by trying to get the natives killed by the
bomb, thereby triggering an international incident. It all turns out all
right in the end, at least by this movie's sense of things.
