I used to go to work. It wasn't easy. I nearly smashed the alarm clock a number of times. Just five more minutes was all I needed. I don't know which was worse; going to work on a nasty, cold, wet day, or going to work on a nice, sunny, comfortable day. But I survived it for decades.

Getting there was the worst part. Once I had arrived, it was not a problem. At least not until five minutes before quiting time. That was the longest five minutes of the day.

And then there were those times I had to work in the evening after a full day. I didn't always get paid, so the times when I did were a little easier. I would get home and hit the couch for a few minutes, then eat supper and head out the door. No fun at all.

Now, I don't set the clock. I get up when I'm good and ready. Then I drink coffee and read the paper for a while before breakfast. I spend the day going from the shop to the couch to the computer. In nice weather, I spend some time out in the yard, or over in the garden. I hardly ever go into town, but sometimes I take a short ride on a scooter or a bicycle. I watch a little news and sometimes a car race, but I'm not addicted to TV.

If that routine gets boring, I go see the grandkids or take a vacation. I think I'm beginning to figure out why I used to get up and go to work.
