From what I've heard, it was the wounded man who made the mistake. He apparently did not announce his location. As far as the delay goes, the only reason the incident is newsworthy at all is because it involved a nationally known figure. The media are in a tizzy because the White House didn't announce it, which is ridiculous. It's far more logical for the relevant landowner to break the news, instead of somebody a thousand miles away who wasn't involved in the incident.
