I think, ultimately, there is no one right answer. Life is full of decisions that have consequences other than "right" or "wrong" but a mix of both, and I think it's usually one of the last steps of mental and emotional maturity when you realize just how dramatically the rest of your life depends on these decisions.

For me, though, LaZorra, I think you made the wiser choice in a decision that wouldn't even have been close for me -- right for your convictions and right for your emotional healing, two absolutely huge factors. Good people are important in life, but no matter how important they may be, there are two things at stake here that you can't sacrifice for them: one is the integrity of your relationship with God, and the other is a life situation that permits you emotional health. I know the emotions you describe very well -- they *will* go away, and you'll understand them better as time goes on, but in the meantime, well, you pull a splinter *out* of your finger before you can expect it to heal properly.

The choice you made was, I'm sure, by far the more difficult of the two to make, and I have a great deal of respect for you for having the strength of will to make it.
