How do the gas stations sell more gas this way? It's not like you throw away "extra" gas in your tank, so all this will do is let you go slightly longer without filling up. It's like saying if we all had larger tanks but our fuel consumption stayed the same the gas stations would sell more.

P.S. Yes, I realize that in theory having more gasoline in your tank *does* lower fuel efficiency because it makes your vehicle heavier, but in practice I doubt adding a few ounces to a car makes much difference.
