Yup, definitely Canadian. And I don't know about the laws here, but being a teacher I have pretty strong views on copyright and intellectual property (I'm the one person in a million who clicks the "copyright" link on webpages, and requests fair usage of material).
I appreciate all of the great advice provided here, and have definitely decided on an IPod, partly because this whole sticky issue is dealt with by downloading from the ITunes site, and paying for each song.
Plus, it won't kill my daughter to learn that the work produced by artists is worth something, and if she wants it, she will have to make choices about where to spend her allowance!
