Itching-- Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes? Or at least one of them.
Energy-- Which gives you the most distance for a given amount of expended energy, a bicycle or ice scates?
Cure-- Do medical researchers ever conceal a breakthrough that might put them out of a job?
Crossing-- I wonder why they always tell you to cross the street at the corner? Sometimes it's a good idea, but far from always. If you cross at the corner, you have to watch traffic from four different directions. There is traffic speeding up, slowing down, and turning. Drivers have to focus on three different dirctions.
But if you cross in the middle of the block, you only have to contend with traffic from two directions, and at least the drivers are looking mostly straight ahead.
Controlled intersections make it a little easier for you, but multi-lane streets make any crossing dangerous. Pedestrian bridges and tunnels are beginning to look better every year.
Nashville-- I remember when I lived in Nashville, some 50 years ago, they had a plan for Church Street, the heart of the business district. The wanted to remove the sidewalks to add more traffic lanes and then build walkways on the second story of all the store fronts, creating a traffic level and a pedestrian level. I haven't been downtown in "Music City" lately, but I don't think it ever happened.
Drugs-- I keep wondering if drug companies ever think of creating a health scare to sell more drugs.
War-- What really causes war? Could it be male hormones?
Autumn-- If the leaves fall off the trees in the fall because the days are shorter, and not because of weather, why don't they fall at the same time each year? I know a thing or three about leaves and they are late this year. Late changing color, late falling to the ground, and very late getting picked up. In years past, we have had leaves a foot deep in the yard on this date and I worried about the fire hazard. This year, you would have to rake an acre to build a small fire.
Thinking?-- I wonder about those people who drive a gas hog down the interstate at a high rate of speed. Are they thinking, "I can afford it, so it's OK," or have they never heard the expression "non-renewable resource?" Are they thinking about anything at all?
Dofor-- Are drivers with cell phones going to do for the cell phone what death did for cigarettes? Are spammers and viruses going to do for the internet what, foul-mouthed clods did for CB radio?
Time-- I like battery powered clocks. When the power goes off, you don't have to reset them. Too bad they can't adjust themselves for daylight saving time like the clock in your computer or cell phone. Did you know that most cell phones adjust for the time zone when you travel? If you didn't know that, you may need a new cell phone.
Take time to check-- Have you looked in your barn, shed, garage, basement, attic, shop, or chicken house to see if there is an old motor scooter rusting away in there? Somebody might want to restore them to their original beauty. Do you wonder why it took me so long to get around to that? Howard
