I went to see Elizabethtown which was somethink I might not have (probably would not have) ever seen had I not been alone. Aside from four little goomers throwing Skittles, it was a wonderful, check-your-brains-in, two hours of relaxing fun.

It's strange, but I was just thinking about that the other day. Before my wife retired, I had all day to myself. I dabbled in antiques, went for scooter rides, worked in the yard, took the canoe out for a paddle, fished a little, and matched movies on TV.

Then suddenly it was two of us, all day every day. Fortunately, we like a lot of the same things, so it was just different, and not really a problem. I used to travel with my widowed sister, or go by myself to a scooter meet. I still do those same things, but my wife goes along too.

The last two years, dealing with diabetes, I need my caregiver, so I don't expect to be traveling alone any more.

Our kids are all middle aged now, but I still think about the noise in the back seat. Peace and quiet is wonderful and I have adjusted to it very well.

The first time we took a long trip without our kids, we found that it was quiet everywhere. It was at a time when schools were in session and everywhere we went, there were no kids. We were at Grand Canyon, 2000 miles from home when that fact hit us.

We go to the movies sometimes, usually early afternoon on a weekday. I've seen a few when there were less than a dozen people present. It was nice.
