Yeah. My home is my home. If I want to die in my own home, that's my right. Stupid, but my right.

But I also think exercising that right means you waive the right to costly rescue operations when you're camped out on your roof hoping a helicopter arrives before your house gets washed away. Either that, or you foot the bill yourself.

But given that a lot of people just couldn't get out of the city and rescue operations were needed anyway, how are you going to distinguish between somebody who couldn't get out and somebody who purposely chose to stay? And even if you could, would it be moral to do so?
