Knivetsil, since you consider yourself not really a Christian now, the best of the scriptural texts to look through is the Gospel. The most-recommended gospel is John's. My personal favorite is Mark's. Any of the four will do. Make it clear to yourself who this Jesus is and what you believe about him. Intricate questions about related matters can be answered in time. Christ is the centerpiece of all existence; in a sense, he is the sun by which Christians see everything else.
