As many of you know, I've spent the better part of 18 months wrestling with government paperwork, with the intent of becoming a Lawful Permanent Resident of America.
This morning, we had an appointment with the USCIS (United States Citizenship & Immigration Service). We had a pile of paperwork about an inch and a half thick to take with us, but the guy barely glanced at more than a couple of them before blurting out "you're approved.".
We were caught by suprise for a moment, and neither of us was quite sure what he meant. But it turns out that I've got my green card, so we won't need to go through any of this again for another 2 years, when we'll need to prove that we're still married.
We'd taken our wedding photos along, as pictures of us together were one of the requirements. But he didn't need to see them in the end. Except that famous was quite insistent, so he had a look through them anyway ;)
So, if I choose to apply for American citizenship, I can do so in three years from today.
