I've seen a lot of stuff like that. The problem is that the decisions are not made by educators. People get elected to the board (or appointed to some such body in the case of private schools) and as often as not they aren't qualified to make intelligent decisions. Usually they are guided by how much money is available, their own beliefs and opinions, or how the decision will effect the sports program.

Frankly, I think a board member should have at least the same qualifications as a beginning classroom teacher. It's possible for a person who can barely read and write to be in a position to decide which courses will be available.

Private schools are often more interested in religious indoctrination than computer classes.

Public schools often have board members who are only interested in hiring and firing coaches.

A decade ago, many school administrators would pick up a rattlesnake before they would touch a computer.

Don't hold you breath until things change.
