I've been retired for 12 years now. No, I'm not that old, I retired early. I think I have hit on a good formula for successful retirement. First, the amount of money you have is less important than how you use it. A little painless penny pinching will let you go a long way on a buck.
Speaking of going a long way, get off the couch and travel.
Find things to do that will keep you active. Volunteer. Helping other people is great for people who think being retired makes you useless. Personally, I don't need that, but a lot of people do.
One hobby is not enough. Have something to do on the rainy days and something else in nice weather. Some hobbies are work no matter what the weather.
If the sun shines, I go out and ride a bike or a motor scooter. If the weather is rotten I stay inside and work on a bike or a motorscooter.
Gardening can be year around. In the fall, I build a compost pile. A big one. I work it with the tiller a couple of times during the winter. In between the last frost and the first frost is the time to clear the garden, test the soil, then turn and till the soil, so that you are ready for spring planting.
When not involved with gardening or scooters, I like to travel. That's where penny pinching really pays off. When planning a trip, don't just look at transportation and lodging. Pinch pennies on absolutely everything, except maybe tips. Sometimes a package deal is the best price, and sometimes it isn't. Look at it both ways.
Stay healthy. Eat healthy. Get your beauty sleep. And go see your doctor regularly even if you aren't sick.
And check RinkWorks once or twice a day. How"works for me"ard
