When we talked about tipping in general back in March 2002, I liked EVERYTHING Dave had to say (and he had a lot to say!). I could never express myself as well as he did, but I still agree with his post that we should not have to supplement the pay of waitpersons by paying tips.

We ate at the Cracker Barrel the other day and our waitress gave us exceptionally good service. So we felt good about leaving her a very generous tip of 30% of the total bill.

I usually don't go out to eat much anymore, because I don't want to feel obligated to leave a tip for bad service. And I would just about never order a pizza delivery, but might make an exception if the weather is just too bad for me to got out. In that case, I would feel justified in giving the delivery person a very generous tip.

If anyone has never read Dave's post on tipping, then I think you should make a point to read it. I have included a link to it below.
