My experiences with bridges have been mostly on school trips, with the kind of highway bridge you describe. I never gauged the length, but they seemed pretty big. Outside of such trips, I have crossed from Hamilton, IL to Keokuk, IA on a bridge. Other than the statue of the city's namesake, there wasn't much new about it.

I've seen covered bridges in pictures and on TV, but not otherwise. They look interesting, but I don't think we have them down here.
