I read this somewhere else, but it's a good point: technically it is Anakin who destroys all the Sith. He's the one who saves Luke and kills the Emperor (the last Sith, presumably) at the end of Jedi.

So maybe the Jedi were right, but didn't understand what they'd have to go through to get there.
