When you encounter opponents, you have two options (buttons) - "run" or "fight". Clicking the run button does not mean that you run away. It just means that you would no longer wish to continue or do not want to engage in combat.

Say you're (in real life) walking along the sidewalk and a bully approaches you from the opposite direction. He puts up his fists like he wants to fight you. "Clicking the fight button" in this instance would mean something like throwing down your belongings and putting up your own fists. "Clicking the run button" would mean just making the decision that you're not going to oppose him in the fight. You would still have to maneuver around the bully on the sidewalk.
