Peeps cussed at me in a chat room! posted by GreenJeanz on Tuesday, December 8, 1998, at 17:12:20:
> *sniff* I will NEVER go to a chat again! peeps were saying dirty and mean stuff to me and themselves! It's my boyfriend's chat room, but he wasn't there. I kept on telling them to shut up but they wouldn't! I'm gonna tell Matt (My b-friend) about it. Maybe he'll ban them, if I can remember their names.
can certainly understand you being upset by this, GreenJeanz.
does the chat room allow you to add people to an 'ignore' list? that might be one option.
mind you, ignoring them in that fashion or even banning them may not be practical in the long run (they can change their log on ids simply enough, if such things are required ...)
may i make a suggestion? as unpleasant as it might sound, i say hold your ground - it is your space as much - if not more so - than it is theirs. sadly, you will encounter from time to time people who will behave unpleasantly IRL and on the net, and making them 'disappear' is not always practical - better, i suspect, to deal with them ...
some people on the net deliberately 'confront' others - it's how they get their jollies; it is apower game, of sorts, for they know/believe that they can get away with it because of the nature of the net ... well, remember GreenJeanz, you enjoy that same power - they cannot really touch you, though their comments may well disgust you - but by failing to give them the response they are look for, you have utilised your power to take from them they're fairly sad little pleasures ...
don't react or respond to their stupidity, no matter how absurd/crude it gets. they'll tire of it. i assume they're adolescent boys, and (generally speaking) your average adolescent boy has the attention span of a goldfish ; - ) they'll move on in time ...
whatever you decide to do, good luck, GreenJeanz.
