If you have two people on board, the one in the back sits on a seat that is only a short distance from the stern, while the other guy sits on one well back from the bow. But with only one on board, he sits on the one that is closer to the center, facingin the opposite direction, and the bow becomes the stern. It's a matter of weight distribution. If a single paddler sits too far back, the front rises out of the water and the canoe become difficult to steer. > > > > And did you know that the paddler in the back of the canoe is really the one who steers? > > I'm impressed at how much of this I did know, and had assumed was just common knowledge. Of course, my dad has long been an avid canoer (I don't think that's a word) and I have been on several trips with him, so I guess I picked most of it up that way. One thing I can say for sure, though -- I've NEVER been good enough at canoeing to be the guy in the back. :-) > > > How"O+"ard > > Don "O- and giving it away" Monkey
Another thing you probably know is that if you put the heavy guy in front and the lightweight in the back, the canoe is almost impossible to control.
That stuff about blood type was just a play on how much blood types sound like grades. I'm O+ and my wife is O- and we get along just fine. Howard
