I could never tell if I was in the center of the lane, either, until I figured out that the car would be centered if the front left corner of the hood just touched the yellow line. Then my problem was staring down at the corner of the hood and not looking where I was going. My mom absolutely refused to drive with me after the first couple of times. She hasn't let me drive her anywhere since I caught her van's brakes on fire. X-P

Stopping was a problem, too. I would put the brakes on way too early and creep up to the stop sign/light, but I never let off the brakes, so the car would jolt back when it finally stopped. Not to mention it really aggravated the people behind me who knew how to drive.

I also did the accelerate/brake thing, but my biggest challenge was city driving. I learned how to navigate the windy, one-and-a-half-lane country roads without a problem, but when I had to learn to drive in the city--whee dogies. I couldn't keep track of the cars around me, the stoplights, and my speed all at once, and changing lanes made me cold sweat.

Then there was the time Dad tried to make me learn stick shift on his 1967 International Harvester pickup. I got pulled over for drunk driving because I choked it too much or something and it died in the middle of an intersection. Took me two or three minutes to get the ornery old thing to start again. The cop just laughed and told me to be careful. :-P
