If you insist: This was written yesterday, and has been cut-and-pasted.

This evening, we went to a baseball match. It was nothing like I'd been lead to believe from films like Friday Night Lights, Remember the Titans and Any Given Sunday. They could almost have been playing a different game. But anyway, today was Jackie Robinson Day, honouring the first black major league player. I have kind of mixed feelings about that -- on the one hand, I think it was an important step forward in American race relations, but I'm also somewhat disapointed that there is still enough racism in America that it needs to be remembered.

There was a promotion that I didn't really understand before the game started -- sign up to a designated driver programme and qualify for cheap beer.

Then the game started without me noticing. The Cincinatti Redstockings were playing the Houston Astronauts. In the first twelve innings, only 2 people got as far as first base (hehe. That sounds rude), and one of those didn't even touch the ball. After a while, though, things started happening, and the Texans ended up winning 11-2.

I'm sure that most baseball matches are more exciting that that one, so I plan to see at least one more before I decide that I don't enjoy the sport.

I'd been thinking of taking my camera with me, but decided against it, as it's somewhat bulky. But I think I made the wrong decision, and next time I'll be sure to take it.
