I just realized my comments about Madagascar might be ambiguous on what the studio is. "Madagascar" is actually a DreamWorks film, so it's following on the heels of the Shrek movies and Shark Tale. DreamWorks did Shrek mostly right (the moral inconsistency of the jokes about the stature of the villain bothered me -- doesn't that conflict with the central theme, that judgment on appearances is wrong?), but they're heading in the wrong direction, I fear.

Disney's contribution to 3D animation this year comes a few months later in the form of "Chicken Little," which also looks like it might be a fun enough comedy but not a classic for the ages.
