Heroism

What makes a hero? Is it somebody who is willing to sacrifice themselves to save another, even if they actually make it out alive? Or is it somebody who actually dies in the process of saving somebody else? Would one still be a hero if they had ulterior motives for doing a heroic act-IE, somebody rushes into a burning building and saves a baby to get media attention, not because they cared about the baby? Does attitude matter in heroism-if one does something heroic but they gripe and complain the entire time are they heroic? Can you be heroic simply based on attitude-say you're in a bad situation but you never complain about it? Are all heroes inspiring? Can somebody become a hero based on just one act? Is courage necessary to be a hero?

The idea here is to start a bit of discussion since the rinkforum has been a bit dry. Feel free to hijack the thread however you like, as long as you post something
